Jeanette Jarville (BFA, Emily Carr University) is a painter and sculptor living and working from her studio in Crescent Beach, near Vancouver BC. Canada.
She has a distinctive style which is drawn from a strong background in classical figure drawing and old masters oil painting methods. Her contemporary work beautifully combines spontaneous, fluid marks with structured form and composition. Her work is recognized for its imaginative bold gestures, sensuality, compelling colours and dynamic composition.
Statement
My creative process can be viewed as an expressive flow of energy, exploring organic forms through powerful abstract painting. It is an intimate connection of self-exploration and expression through the application of paint. I have always been drawn to Baroque paintings for their powerful compositions, beautiful rendering of light, and jewel tone colours, and to the Abstract Expressionists for their emotional brush strokes and seemingly quick, decisive gestures. Having many years of classical training I aim to combine a classical feel using a sophisticated colour palette, bold compositions and multiple mixed media layers, to create a unique personal style. Working from imagination, my paintings evolve from an inner place of ‘feeling it’ as I go. Visions, dreams, nature, and the figure, all influence my work. I allow my work to take me on an artistic, intuitive, playful, journey. I often begin with a loose drawing then hone in on the images and objects that appear and accentuate them as the work unfolds. Mindful of fresh and exciting directions I can choose to follow as I move through the piece. Titles are important to me, they weave stories into my work and begin or direct a dialogue about the art. My intention is to connect to what I see or what I think I see, and be curious to what it may mean. I hope to inspire joy and spark the imagination of those who view my art.
Bio
Jeanette is a full time, award winning artist from Vancouver, BC, who lives and works from her studio in Crescent Beach, a community 45 min south of Vancouver. She had a natural talent in art and was labeled ‘the class artist’ since Kindergarten, she began oil painting at the age of 11 with one year of private instruction. She received a District Art Scholarship, an Arts Council Scholarship and Honours graduating High School. Jeanette was accepted into the renowned Emily Carr University of Art & Design in 1992. She was awarded four more scholarships for the work she was producing there, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Art in 1996. She also studied sculpting and classical painting at The Weissensee Fine Art Academy in Berlin, Germany.
Since graduating from art school in 1996 she has had a successful artistic career. Creating vibrant landscape and figure paintings for the many galleries that sold her work. In 2016 a move to a larger studio and more solitude lifestyle made her concentrate on work that was deeper and more personal. Her work became looser, more intimate, expressive and large scale. She works in oil, acrylic and mixed media painting, and sculpture in all media.
To date Jeanette has been awarded 9 public art commissions, designed and created a theme park, and in 2011 received The Mayor’s Art Award for Artistic Innovation,
in 2014 she received AFCA Signature Status with the Federation of Canadian Artists and an FCA Award of Excellence. 2018 she was awarded 3rd place in the Masters Division of The Plein Air Grand Prix of Art competition in BC, and also received The People’s Choice Award. Jeanette was a finalist in BC’s Images & Objects show, and received the People’s Choice Award at the Surrey Art Gallery.
She is a popular instructor and juror. Jeanette has over 1200 works placed in private and corporate collections throughout Canada, USA, Asia, Australia, S.Africa and much of Western Europe. In public collections of: The UBC/VGH art collection, BC Lions Society, and Richmond Hospital Foundation. Her work has been featured on television, in movies, and in numerous news articles and magazines such as, the BC Home Magazine, and on the cover of The View Magazine, The South Surrey Peninsula Magazine, The Review, and Richmond News. Featured in The Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers. She has exhibited in solo and group shows locally and internationally and has had work in The McBride Museum in Whitehorse, Yukon, YVR Airport and The Venice Biennale, Italy.
